Memorial Day
2011/05/28

Memorial Day is a US federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 30 in 2011). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates men and women who died while in Military Service to the United States. The holiday was first enacted to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War and was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars. So please take this day to actively remember our ancestors, our family members, our loved ones, our neighbors, and our friends who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Plan a visit to the Veterans Freedom Flag Monument and read the names of the many men and the women from this area who have died fighting for freedom.
