Cpl. Carse was serving in the Army as a team leader with the 176th Brigade, 2nd Engineers Battalion, 595th Sapper Company, 1st Platoon. He fulfilled a long desire to serve his country when he joined the Army as a combat engineer. Nathan gave up a civilian engineering career to join the Army at age 31. He held a bachelor's degree in biology from Capital University in Columbus and a master's in engineering from Lousiana State University. Nathan died Feb. 8, 2011, in the line of duty while serving in Afghanistan. Survivors include Janis Hays Carse (Mother), Megan (Matt) Brown, Kristin (Jacob) Purdy, and four loving nephews Jackson, Aidin, Collin, and Bryce.
