On 31 May 1966, Capt. Armon D. (Monty) Shingledecker participated as a Navigator on a C-130E aircraft engaged in a night parachute delivery of classified munitions against a heavily defended target over the Song Ma River approximately one mile north of the Thanh Hoa Bridge (The Dragon's Jaw) in N. Vietnam. The plane was shot down and all 8 crew members were lost. Monty's remains were identified and repatriated in 1998. He was buried, with full military honors, in Lima, OH.
