A Columbus Grove, Ohio family has the unusual distinction of sending six boys to the military. Eugene, Edward, Harold, James, Raymond and Richard Halker, sons of Leo and Frances Halker, served their country during the World War II and Korean War periods. Harold Halker was drafted into the US Marines and served in the Pacific Theater. He was wounded in the fighting at Iwo Jima, and released from the service. Harold earned the Purple Heart for his injuries.
